Scenario Building Workshop

The project AIDS in Africa: Scenarios for the Future aims to explore different paths for the evolution of the AIDS epidemic in Africa, and reflect on the associated implications. Central to this process is the gathering together of fifty participants, selected for their individual insight and commitment to Africa’s future. (Read more about the project participants)

In the Orientation Workshop, held in Addis Ababa May 2-6, participants produced a jointly owned overview of the HIV/AIDS problem. They surfaced and explored the range of relevant issues and started to explore key drivers of change.

During this Scenario Building Workshop, the second of three workshops, the participants used this overview as a basis to start constructing the scenarios. The diverse group of participants, drawn from government, civil society and business, representing a mix of competencies, national origins, gender, ages and cultures, have ensured that the process is as rigorous as it needs to be.

This workshop, hosted by the African Development Bank, was held in Tunis, at the Hotel Africa.

Following on from this workshop, the scenarios are being further developed and deepened. A rigorous research programme is underway as part of this.
